A month behind the entertainment news, but that doesn't mean I can't relay my horrors to the masses that make up the internet. I just found out that there is going to be a movie version of "The Lorax". This was my all-time favorite Dr. Suess book and potentially children's story of all time. My love for this story began back in kindergarten when I watched the 1st grade class of my school put on a play based on the 72 page book.
Well now Universal is making this into a movie. Oye. What is with producers turning a short, simple children's story into a 2 hour mess?? (I am purely speculating on time, but I am fairly certain it would be more in line of the Jim Carrey 104 minute Grinch than the lovely simple 26 minute animated version) And how are the producers further twisting the dagger in my heart? They have casted Taylor Swift as one of the characters (who doesn't exist in the actual story). The only plus is that this movie is animated...ugh.
Fingers crossed the Truffula trees and Brown Bar-ba-loots look as crazy fun and adorably cute as they do in the book.
Cabot and I normally on the same page. I love their Habanero Cheese big time and occasionally splurge on a block. (It's like twice as expensive as regular cheddar, thus a special occasion kind of cheese) Well, the other day I saw they had a spreadable version, I thought AWESOME. Snagged it, paid for it, and brought it home.
I realized I was in charge of snack for my staff meeting, so it came to work with me. (Don't worry, I also brought along some crackers and some chips/salsa too,. I know how to make a good good last minute snack) The meeting ended up getting canceled. Score! I don't have to share the spread. I get home, open it up, slather some on a cracker and take a bite.
YEA-OWWWW
That shit is hot. If you are considering trying it, be sure to keep a glass of milk near by, you will need it.
-------- Dear Cabot, If you see this, don't worry. I still love your stuff, my mouth is clearly a big wuss when it comes to heat. Me :)
Hit the "skip to :47 seconds" image in the video to get to the trailer. But I just saw the Pirates of the Caribbean 4 trailer for the first time and I am beyond excited. Penelope Cruz looks amazing, Keira who???
This past weekend was amazing, I will be posting about the Snowball Gala, SSR, betteroffbowling, and Christmas shopping later this week. Ok, probably not until Friday as I have a major amount of Economics to do by Thursday. Tootles!
Today is the Friday before Columbus Day weekend. Did I expect any extra traffic on my drive home from work today? Heck no. Was I concerned that my car barely had any gas left when I left the parking garage? Nope. Should I have been? Pretty much.
The traffic was bad. In fact, it might have been some of the worst I have ever traveled in since I started commuting 10 months ago. Am I exaggerating? Don't think so. Here's why:
Things were moving fairly well until I had to turn onto North Harvard. There was nothing to clue me into the monster grid lock I was about to drive into. But I got about halfway to the next light and had to come to a complete stop. This never happens. I am usually pretty good until I get onto the bridge. At first, I thought no big deal, we will move. Oh man, how wrong was I. Below is a map of the area. From where North Harvard hits Western to where it crosses Memorial is .6 of a mile.
Do you know what went faster than me? For .6 miles -- which is just over a mile remember.
Nope, not a bike.
OR a runner
Or a vespa
Or a something else you think of when you think fast.
I was beaten by a DACHSHUND. The only thing worse would have been a chihuahua.
I saw the little guy just as I went through the intersection. He was frolicking in some grass. I thought to myself - cuuuuuuuute. Seeing him made me think that it was a good sign for a great weekend. Then I hit traffic and started to stress about the lack of gas in my car. That stress only rose when, still only about halfway over the bridge, I see this same dog pass by me on the sidewalk. Oye.
Don't worry friends, I managed to cut around the worst of the traffic and coasted into the gas station on fumes.
My cupboards were not bare, but they didn't have the most useful items in them either. A meal consisting of diced tomatoes in garlic and oil with a can of baked beans and some crackers wasn't going to cut it, so I decided to stop at the grocery on the way home.
I bought way more groceries than I intended, I just cannot control myself when I am hungry, and hopped into the car to speed to my apartment before the ice cream had a chance to get melty. As I walked up the path to my apartment building, I went to reach for my keys. Not in my bag.
I frantically started pulling the bag apart and dumping the contents. That is when I realized that I had made a huge mistake leaving my coat on the back of my office chair. My morning routine consists of me slipping my apartment keys into my coat pocket. Sometimes these keys are later transferred into my bag, but this was not the case today. Ugh.
After a few calls to the property building and the various handymen, I was able to get in and save the frozen foods. An hour later I went to grab my bag so I could pick up my friend from the bus stop and go over to trivia. As I grabbed my phone, car keys and spare keys, I noticed something was missing. That sometime was my wallet.
Again, I tore everything apart and even searched the car. No wallet. I know I bought my groceries so I called the market. Thankfully someone turned it in!
I raced over and everything was there, my credit cards and my money. Sigh of relief!
As much as those two hours caused me extreme stress, I will walk away thinking that it could have been worse. I am thankful things worked out so well for me, and I even was able to pick up my friend and make it to trivia. We only missed out on the first question!
I definitely go over the 300 point on almost a daily basis. This could be why there are days I just cannot sit still. Maybe, just maybe I will try to cut down on my coffee consumption. I did try earlier this week to cut down my email dependency and failed miserably at that, so I don't see how lowering my caffeine intake after depending on it since I was 15 is really going to happen.
If I see jelly fish in the ocean anywhere near me, I panic. I just cannot deal with them. Even though I know the clear ones don't sting, they are just so weird!! Sometimes they wash ashore along the coast and when you are strolling with friends while chatting, it is easy to put your foot down right on top of one. The squish and cold and ugh I can't even handle typing about something that hasn't even happened to me personally in years. Ick.
When ever it got unseasonably warm back home early on in the summer I felt both joy and dread all in one fell swoop. Joy, because that hopefully meant a great summer full of beach days, dread because that meant the jelly fish would be on the move and they would be coming to my beach. There is really nothing more depressing than going to the beach knowing there are tons of teeny tiny little jelly fish floating around out there. Well red tide is way worse and smells terribly, but if we only count situations that allow you to still swim, teeny jellies are up there.
Now what might be worse that teeny jellies? How about 450 pound ones!!! Well they are out there. Japan is being surrounded!
A blood-orange blob the size of a small refrigerator emerged from the dark waters, its venomous tentacles trapped in a fishing net
MSNBC.com had an article out about this crazy population of sea creatures. I would normally like to provide more quotes from this article but they really give me the willies. If you are braver than I, please go ahead, but be forewarned that these things are huge and really messing up the fishing industry! Yet another reason to shake our fists at our changing climate...
We need to end this post with some picture of jelly fish that I think are cute. The live in the aquarium. Please meet the upside down jelly fish:
Oh and let's also show some jelly fish ATTACK!!!!!!
This last picture might have been the inspiration for a potential tattoo. But I am not supposed to be thinking of adding any more ink to my body. My parents would not be very happy with me and I would like to keep their love and support right now. But seriously, don't you find the two jelly fish bouncing into each other kind of beautiful? Especially when they look like they are on fire!
**These pictures were taken by me at the Mystic Aquarium when I spent a very amusing weekend with two lovely ladies :)
I love on the website that there is a "how to shop" link that explains that they are expecting a large crowd so there will be rules on how to shop for the shoes.
I have wanted a pair of Jimmy Choo Shoes since I first started watching Sex and the City in high school (middle school? when did that come out again...)
If I am able to swing this (which is unlikely as the closest store that will have this promotion is NYC), I promise I will let you know
As I have posted previously, I made a great dinner on Wednesday. I had planned out how I was going to leave my office at 5 pm, walk home, unwind/change out of work clothing, cook, clean, and hang up some pictures all by the time my guest arrived for a 7:30 dinner. Part of my plan involved simply placing on the TV so that I had background noise and company while running around. I get to the point that I want some fictional company and no signal. I try the computer so that I can get something playing off that - no internet. Thankfully iTunes does not require an internet connection.
I left the tv on to see if the connection would just fix itself. After a while I called Comcast and requested a power boost signal thing that is supposed to be your first step in solving cable/internet problems. (Requesting this is the equivalent of turning it off and on your computer before you call IT)
After about 20 minutes I check on it again, I find that there is still nothing. So as I am scrapping potatoes I grab the phone again and try to speak to a representative. I will give Comcast credit, I did not have to wait on hold for long, but after a slightly awkward conversation it was determined that there was simply a blackout in my area. So no tv.
That was fine, I was only using the tv for company and would have simply put on stuff from my dvr list. It wasn't until my guest showed up and I told him about the issue as I was unable to look up something on the internet, that I realized the horror of no cable signal...
Without signal, no DVR powers. With no DVR/cable that meant no GLEE!!!!!!
I know that hulu is there for just this type of problem, but man. I use my DVR so that I don't watch crap tv and only watch things I am actually interested in, and I was about to miss out on the best new show of the season.
While we were dining I saw out of the corner of my eye my modem light up. This provided much relief. GLEE was in my near future after all. After my friend went home to study, I cleaned up and was able to retrieve an episode full of some fantastic mashups.
Yeah, I know tv is out to get me and mush up my mind. But I am surviving just fine for now. Maybe some day I will become a person that "doesn't need tv". As for now, please, bring on Real Chance of Love 2, GLEE, and the new Melrose every week :)
I got to work and realized that I left my cell phone at home. Immediately I had a sense of dread come over me. Not because I was somehow less connected to the world - let's be honest I don't normally get calls during the work day - no, it was because my cell phone is my replacement watch. I knew that while I was at work I usually checked the time on the computer but was concerned about wanting to know what time it was once I stepped away from my desk. There were a few errands that I hope to complete between now and Thursday (going on a trip to visit an amazing person!!!!).
At first, I thought I could manage with just my iPod. Then, I immediately remembered that I had left it in the office last night and it was on its last leg. This left me with one option: to postpone my ventures until tomorrow. The idea of walking around Boston without the ability to communicate or know the time was just too much. The plan simply became, go home after work and run errands tomorrow. I am dead serious. I just couldn't do it.
My dependency on knowing what time it is can best be illustrated by comparing the feeling I get when I have no idea what time it is to that guy who is in the experiment in the movie IQ. You remember that movie it had Meg Ryan and that guy from Shawshank Redemption. Her fiance is running experiments where he is keeping a guy in a room with no watch or clock and I am pretty sure he didn't have a window either. The guy was screaming and going nuts, completely understandable. Andy Dufresne ends up sneaking the guy his watch which he wears on his ankle. But yeah, the screaming thing is what I feel like when I can't get the time.
When I first got into the apartment I couldn't locate my phone either. Fortunately my alarm happened to be going off and I was able to find it in a pile of pink tutu and accessories from my kickball outfit last night - I was Suzy Homemaker.
