Booze before noon? Hells Yeah

Massachusetts passed a law that allows for booze to be served before noon on Sundays! This is some of the most exciting news I have heard that would fall under the category of politics. I realize that makes me seem shallow and pathetic, but really, having to wait until noon to order a mimosa is quite taxing at times.

If you have ever gone to the Highland Kitchen for Sunday brunch you would know how quickly the bartenders need to react when noon hits and EVERYONE wants a drink. Everyone sitting at tables, at the bar and waiting for a table wants a Bloody Mary or Mimosa STAT.

I cannot wait to brunch. Let's check my calendar...any one free July 18th? If not, how about August 1st? If neither works, maybe we can go for sometime in September :)

Awkward.

Glamour published their last magazine with a very small photo of a nude woman who is definitely not your average model...

I guess a lot of women noticed the small picture because letters started to pour into the office exclaiming how refreshing it was to see a regular woman in the magazine. Those letters inspired on of the editors to write this blog post. Like any big time blog there are of course tons of comments. Possibly more comments than I have posts (which equals A TON of comments). Well they are all a handful of woman who end up bickering back and forth about whether this size 12 (plus size model) woman is OBESE or not.

OBESE?????

She has a little tummy pudge. But otherwise she is about as perfect as the next woman. And the pudge is normal and nothing to run away from...for crying out loud people.

These woman end up having a huge argument - via posting - about if she is really as healthy as she claims. I got hook into reading their comments because I would love to see these people in real life, they sound like they belong on Jerry Springer. Particularly I would like to meet the woman and her husband that claim they would loose - yes that is how she wrote it - their lunch after looking at the woman's stomach and thunder thighs. I don't see the thunder either.

The conversation, if you can call it that, was awkward. If I were to be honest with myself, I would have to agree that I do very much like looking at these "perfect" women in the magazines. If the women looked more like me I think I would develop serious image issues. Why? Because I would start wondering why I couldn't be a model. I know why I am not one now. I am not perfect, I have a disproportioned quirky body that I am extremely comfortable in.

Totally not looking to open the what is healthy/what is obese/what is beautiful debate. Merely saying that any time a magazine tries to do something slightly different people blow it up.

Alaska seems to think it doesn't need Speech Writers.

My friend found this link today. Vanity Fair's editor takes Sarah Palin's resignation speech and makes it publishable. It is HYSTERICAL. Read it. You'll love it. Even I know this thing is poorly written, and I was a math major.

That is a major flip-flop

Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter will switch from the Republican to the Democratic Party, multiple sources tell CNN

This just showed up in my email from CNN. Hey, I don't do politics on this blog all that often, and even now this is more of an inquiry... can an elected official just switch like that? Aren't you voted in based on your politics/political party?

Then again, one can be a liberal conservative or a conservative liberal...

Meh, just thought I would introduce a topic of conversation. and Welcome Sen Specter to the Democratic Party

$500,000 just isn't enough

Today's top story would have be regarding Obama wanting to impose a salary cap to top executives of companies who received significant money from the bail out. Personally, I think that this idea is awesome. The fact that there is concern that these men (let's face it most top executives are men - but fortunately Obama did sign a bill which will allow women fight pay-discrimination more effectively) will be having a hard time living on $500,000 after years of earning millions is ridiculous! But as previously stated here on High Heels Short Skirt, I will not participate in political rants even tho I have no problem pushing articles that I find interesting onto others.

Inauguration day is almost here!

This blog is never going to become much for political discussion...but the inauguration is super exciting so I thought I would cover it at least a little.

Q: How many porta-johns will there be available to patrons for the festivities on the 20th?
A: 5000

Note: I prefer the term porta-john over porta-potty, I am not sure why.
Second Note: I have been in a portable bathroom, complete with running-water faucets; its weird

Q: Will prostitutes invited?
A: No

Note: It sounds like only groups of two or more prostitutes are frowned on...if you are a loner its ok.

Q: Can I drive to the inauguration?
A: AAA says not the best idea. NBC lets you make up your mind but points out that most roads are "Restricted to Buses and Authorized Vehicles Only"

Note: This only proves that driving sucks.

Seriously, tomorrow is going to be amazing. I'm so glad that my employer is letting us close down for the inauguration to watch it on a big screen. I hope everything goes well and that all you enjoy watching it too. Let the healing officially begin!
