Two plus two equals whore

Friday night I was put up as a lot in a date auction hosted by my kickball league. This was a last minute decision and caused all sorts of anxiety. No matter how many times my teammates promised they would bid on me I was still envisioning getting on stage and there being no reaction.

As the auction began, I continued to get nervous, the crowd didn't seem that interested. But when I went up there was some serious interest. There were a number of hands in the air bidding on me that were not my teammates, which made me feel pretty awesome. My fears melted of those crickets, and I decided to be my goofy self and dance around the stage (mind you there was NO music playing).

After the event finished, I came up with the idea that I should rent myself out on dates. I mean, people were interested. Why not make dating profitable? In about 20 seconds, I realized that dates + payment for dates = escort = whore. Oooopsie. Bad plan. Scrapping that one.

Hopefully I can think of another way to make some spare cash. It's the holiday season after all and lots of fun takes lots of disposable cash.

Sugar Daddy is in my future!

I loved Freakanomics and thought the book was full of food for thought. Please don't take that sentence as me taking everything as gospel, but the mathematician in me can't help be graviate to the logic.

There is a blog on The New York Times website that is posted to regularly. Recently, the writers let me know that I am destined to marry well and earn more than my brunette counterparts. I will admit, I have played the "dumb blonde" card before and it is so useful. To all the brunettes and redheads in the world, I am sorry you don't have this luxury.

With this in mind, I will be calling my new fabulous hair dresser to make an appointment to freshen up my highlights as the lack of sun from the winter is sadly keeping my hair dark...

PS I found this random post while looking for images and wanted to share :)

Plus 1 rules

With everything going on in the economy people understand that the holiday parties are probably going to be cut down or simply canceled. Slashing away at the holiday festivities makes sense from a financial standpoint, but given the statistics of workplace morale and the forecast that a majority of employees plan to jump ship in 2010, the merriment really should be kept up. We minions don't have much going for us right now except more work we can possibly handle.

One friend was informed that the holiday party was going to change. She isn't sure what that means...is it off...is it still on but slightly cut back...or are is there going to be some soda, cheese and crackers? Who knows.

Another friend put this message in her gchat status.

holiday christmas party for employees AND significant others (ONLY). great. making an appearance as Bridget Jones once again.

This comment made me pause and think to myself. I mean I understand that the term "significant others" are used because if you said "married" or "married/engaged" people would revolt for various reasons. Until recently same-sex couples couldn't get married, and even though they are able now, there are many couples both hetro and homo that choose to just be partnered, so the term "significant" has been considered the most PC term.

I get this. But really what does significant mean? Online dictionaries agree that this adjective means "important; of consequence". I would say that this description applies to my closest friends as much as anyone else. I might not be in a serious romantic relationship, but that doesn't mean that I don't have significant others in my life. In fact, there are people who are in relationships with individuals who make them miserable. Why is that bond more legitimate than the one I have with a friend? If my company chooses to limit our party to employees and a significant other, I am inviting the same friend who I have invited for the last 2 years. She is one of my best friends and has provided significant support for me.

In the end, I find the concept of only romantic partners as plus ones to be insulting. The reason you bring your partner is so you have someone to talk with, why does the world think that single people don't want to have that safety net too? If anything, there is nothing more painful than having to endure a long conversation about some couple's kid that you have no interest in. At least if you have a friend with you, the two of you can go off and laugh over a drink about the awkward conversation.

Required Reading for Adults

People in relationships love to try to get their single friends into relationships by introducing them to their other single friends. This is also known as a fix-up. Now I have been told more times than I would care to count, that a friend of mine is going to help me out and fix me up. So far this has never ended well.

A badly done fix-up is like required summer reading. When you are in school, as soon as a teacher assigns a book to the class that book immediately becomes unbearable. It didn't matter if the book was something I was dying to read, as soon as I was told I had to, it seemed as dull as toast. (No, even I don't really understand the analogy I just made, but please, go with it) The same is true with people. If I am told that someone is "perfect for me" I tend to be extremely wary about them and if anything even more critical. All of a sudden a perfectly normal, attractive, funny, confident guy becomes bizarre/arrogant/uncomfortable person I don't even want to share oxygen with.

These feelings probably stems from the idea that I don't want to believe someone else can pick out a mate for me better than I can myself. (In all reality, I am well aware of the fact that some of my friends know me better than I know myself and I really should just go with their judgement) Maybe it is also partly that I don't want to like the person because I won't be sure if I really do enjoy being around the guy or if I have convinced myself I have to become someone told me I would --- yes I know that sounds beyond stupid -- again go with it.

As soon as a friend of mine mentions the intended bf, my heart goes out to them as I know that they are doomed from the get go. By no means do I want you all to think that I am saying I am the best thing on the market these days. It is simply that I get a slight pang of guilt for any notches of confidence that I may have knocked off some guy in the past purely because I didn't want someone else to be right...

I guess the moral of the story is that fix-ups need to be subtle. By all means, please don't give up on me, but don't tell me what your doing. Let me think I found that guy all on my own :P

I will say that I actually have saved some of my college books with the hopes that now that it is me doing the choosing, they will be interesting and enjoyable. Maybe the same will be true for the guys that were dismissed before a proper introduction could even be made...

Cheap Date - Always

I always considered myself a cheap date. No need for fancy food - burger and fries are fine by me. Bud light is a perfectly acceptable partner to the meal, and let's face it, any tolerance I had built up for beer during kickball season is now gone. Hello two-beer-queer status! The only real price tag on taking me out would be if I was hankering for a cocktail, because I can bang down martinis with ease...mmmm..tasty goodness.

Any ways, boston.com thought it would be good to clue in its readers to cheap dates in and around the city. Some of the ideas are really cute. I am impressed that they thought to include the cost of riding the T and buses. Good job! Particularly excited that the Museum of Bad Art made the list. While I have yet to peruse the gallery myself, it has been on my to-do forever. But hands down, the suggestion below is the destination for my next outing...just need to find the other half of my two-some. who doesn't love a mini sandwich?
Walk down Washington Street to Felt (533 Washington St., Boston, 617-350-5555, www.feltclubboston.com). We know - you think Felt is a dance club. It is. From Tuesdays through Fridays, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., it also offers complimentary pool and 2-for-$5 mini-sandwiches, each of which, we're told, is about half the size of a regular sandwich. Selections include cheeseburger, veggie burger, and pulled pork, all fully dressed and served with fries.
Side note: Musak (company that owns elevator music) declared chapter 11 bankruptcy last week. How will the nation continue without those wonderful slow jams???

In need of a Sugar Daddy

After posting the picture of the Betsey Johnson red dress I thought I would look to see if it was listed online. I wanted to know how much I couldn't afford her work. Well I found her site. She definitely has a style, or look. But I feel like she and I could be great friends. I don't know what has come over me these past few years, but I have come to love the tutu. I crave a dress with a big skirt and she could fulfill that desire. Look at her stuff! I'm sure you can picture me skipping through Boston in this stuff...I certainly can!

So if anyone knows an eligible millionaire, send him my way. I could use the wardrobe pick-me-up :)

How Could I Still be Single?

Another Valentine's Day is around the corner and while there is no valentine in my life currently, there are plenty of venues advertising themselves as a way for me to find one.

So I have already admitted to having used a an online dating site. I'm not quite ready to pay for it, and have used a free site. Turns out that most 55 year old men think I look rather charming. It is kind of a disaster. There maybe a time I cough up the dough...

A couple of people I know how talked about speed dating, we all think it would be funny but most of my friends are in relationships and I could not keep a straight face if I was by myself. I must admit it some of these sessions are very tempting. Although, personally I hoped there would be a Gold-diggers one, 45+ men, 25-30 year old women.

Virgin Airlines has an awesome thing going. The seats allow for you to "strike up an electronic conversation with other passengers by sending seat-to-seat text messages or joining a chat room. Both methods use the touch screen monitor and the QWERTY keyboard remote control that pops out of the armrest" I hope to fly out to CA for a long weekend sometime soon, maybe I'll be fortunate enough to get a flight text. Mile high?

Even the ads on the side of my facebook page are trying to help. Today it offered me a way to find "Single? Meet 1000s of black singles in your area today at Blackpeoplemeet online dating." and "Meet single, verified millionaire men who are looking to date classy women. Join MeetingMillionaires for free. Date a 10!" It's nice to see that there are so many options for a gal like me. Oh well.

Hope everyone has a great v-day!
