Seeing the Tall Ships the common way

This picture was taken in 2007 in Newport

The Tall Ships are in Boston right now. This weekend I went to see them with two of my friends. We met by the Aquarium and walked around the harbor area getting as close to the ships as we could, battling through some of the crowds. In the past the Tall Ships stop in Newport, RI on their way up to Boston. My dad and I would take the boat out to Newport and cruise around the harbor which gives you such a better view of the different ships. I am not knocking my visit the docks this weekend, but given the option, I'd rather see them via our little Boston Whaler.

Since I have seen this bad boys a bunch of times, I opted to take pictures of random parts of the boats...

The three of us all came to the agreement that the tall ships are supposed to have an aire of grandour and days of yore. Like when people would go on fox hunts or shoot pigeons ("shoot pigeons" was amended to mean, shoot clay pigeons - but we understood what she meant). The point being, that these boats are supposed to remind you of a time before the modern day yaught. Thus there shouldn't be a Garmin :P These sailors should be dependent on the sun and the stars!!!!

We wanted to board one of the boats but were unable to do so. The same boat that had this sign was crewed by a man with a very large comb. We are talking over a foot, like a clown comb. So we were ok that we couldn't get on that one.

After being able to get relatively close to a bunch of the ships we ended up down past the ICA. It was a mad house down there. People EVERYWHERE. We were informed that there were huge lines just to see the ships. It was ridiculous. At that point we kind of threw in the towel. It was just too much for us. But at least when we were down there we saw one of the coastguard boats with machine guns ready to rock!

Surprisingly, the guns weren't shot them. Still was a great afternoon in the sun by the water.
