MKO was robbed!

I saw an advertisement for Beastly the other day. The movie stars a High School Musical girl and some other dude. These two actors are the top billed on all the print ads I've seen and so with this in mind, I assumed that I would have no desire to see it. Then I saw the trailer on tv, and man did I swing 180 on that decision.

Mary Kate Olsen is in this movie!!! The commercial shows her for just a moment but just as she disappeared from the screen I knew it was her. Not for a second did I think that was Ashley, I just knew. How in the world is she not on the posters? I get that her adult movie role choices have not been the best, but she is still way more famous than these two. Who cares if she is a supporting cast member, she is freaking MK Olsen.

I gather she is the wicked witch, or just the witch since the guy has it coming to him (remember this is an updated version of Beauty & the Beast). From this still, I would say she is pulling off the creepy and intensity just fine. Now I need to find time hit up the theaters...something tells me I will find time to see this before I get to The Fighter or The Kings Speech.

Death comes in Threes

If Farrah Fawcett wasn't enough at 5 pm I received a cnn breaking news story that Michael Jackson suffered from Cardiac Arrest. 35 minutes later on Twitter a friend had tweeted RIP MJ but I could not confirm the news anywhere. I had to run a few errand before a game night at a friend's house and stopped at the Parking Office to grab my new parking sticker - FYI prices went up to $15 AND more streets in Somerville will require them in the coming months.

The line is always long there but it was interesting to see that everyone was on their iPhones and whatnots checking the news to see if he did in fact pass away yet. I received a text from a friend confirming his death just before I reached the counter. Within a very short period we have lost Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and the king of pop MJ. Death really does come in threes.

Given that everyone is doing MJ Tribuits here are my two favorites:

ABC from when he was still small and cute and in the Jackson Five

And then Beat It. Couldn't get an version to embed. But I still know this whole dance from my high school senior float. :)

Farrah Fawcett has passed.

I don't normally post about celebrities who pass away but I feel that Farrah deserves some recognition. She was quite the cultural icon, who because of this, lived her last dying years in the spotlight of the media. May she rest in peace now.

Zack Attack!

Everyone was posting up about the Zack Morris interview on Jimmie Fallon's show the other night. It is amazing.

He doesn't break character and, I am not trying to spoil anything, the phone does make an appeareance! :) I am so on board for a Save by the Bell reunion and I don't know anyone my age that wouldn't be totally excited to see it either. I'm so excited, I'm so excited, I'm so scared?

There is a great interview out there about this sketch. Apparently, it was Mark-Paul's idea to come out as Zack! Who knew he was that creative. Granted he said he would have his writer to talk to Jimmie's, but the concept was all Mark-Paul's.

What is this that I am sitting on???

Today I finally got around to cleaning the disaster which was formally known as my bedroom. I would like to say I was shocked, appalled, and baffled about how it got this way, but let's be honest, packing and unpacking three weekends in a row was the cause for most of the trauma. I will attest to the fact that I need to get a bigger book shelf. I have books everywhere in here, it would appear that I have a knack for finding unused storage space.

Taming my room ended rather successfully. Not only can I walk all around my floor, - rather than hopping from one small open space to another - actually see the top of my dresser, - there were piles of earrings, necklaces, ticket stubs and flair - but wait for it.... I actually was able to sit in my clothes chair.

You may need to reread that last part...

I sat in my clothes chair.

I don't think I have ever sat in that chair for the almost two years I have had it. Not only that, but I was able to clear off my desk and put my computer on it. Normally Floyd here travels around with me on top of a hard cover book (which is a great way to plug the fact that if you ever feel the need to get me a gift at random, I could REALLY use a lap desk). But yeah, I took all of the clothing off the back of the chair and removed the old magazines and papers from the seat. Sitting in the chair was a strange sensation. I don't plan on revisiting it any time soon, I just felt wrong on so many levels.

The clothes were temporarily moved to hang over the top of the closet (if you can classify that cubby of a space a closet) door. They will be relocated back to the chair in a few moments. I am quite sure that anyone reading this understands the importance of the clothes chair. If for some reason the concept is escaping your grasp, the clothes chair is where items go that do not belong in the drawer/closet but also should not yet be put in the hamper. Think of it as a fashion limbo. There is no reason to try and change the chair's purpose back to sitting, my bed can fulfill that function just fine. I mean the clothes need to go somewhere and I don't think there is such thing as a clothes bed....that just sounds silly.

Please note, that is NOT my clothes chair. But that is the first image you get when one google images for one!

There is a reason you can't get this stuff in the stores

will you write an entry about girl scout cookies and how they must contain crack in them because they are addictive
I just ate half a box of thin mints (this is not a joke) between the hours of 1:30 and 2:55

A friend of mine made the above request that I write about those wonderful treats known as Girl Scout Cookies. At the time I realized that I had yet to get a box. Walking to work and thus avoiding the T stops in the morning/afternoon causes one to miss out getting accosted by small girls in uniforms. Yes, I do mean accosted. At the beginning of their run I witness 3 teeny ones in the square screaming at the top of their lungs at passer-bys, the mom in charge actually had to tell them to cool it. I would have bought a box then, but they disturbed me, that and I had no cash on me.

After talking with my friend I was on the look out for those boxes, and couldn't my hands on one for the life of me. Eventually, I was successful, and strangely enough bought two boxes from a table hosted by a bunch of middle aged women, no young girls, weird, but whatever. Per my usual behavior I managed to misplace the two boxes that I bought; Thin Mints and Somoas. Fortunately, I found them this weekend and started munching. A friend of mine and I ate about half a box while watching Step Up or some equally trashy ballet/street dancer movie. I brought the rest of the box to work today...

I managed to devour the rest of it in the matter of minutes while reviewing files. They ARE addictive. You cannot have just one. It is probably a good thing you can't get these things in the grocery. If you could, I would probably be much rounder. I am slightly saddened with the fact that the Somoas are gone and only have one sleeve of Thin Mints left...I may have to actually go to the gym soon. EEEK.

If only they Girl Scout Cookie season didn't abut Mini-Egg season. Those are just as deadly, and my coworker totally just put a bowl full of them on our central table. Oh the humanity!!!!

Vandels Outside Pooh's Home

There is a tree that I pass on the way to work every day. At the base there is a stone path that leads up to it. At the end of the path there is a small red door with a shingled awning. The home is labeled "Pooh". Recently the entrance to Pooh's home was vandalized. This isn't the first time I've seen this happen. Usually the door gets ripped off. This time it was the awning. It really does make my day start off on the wrong foot. I mean really, what did Pooh do to you?

Being the dork that I am, I did begin to think that the door on this tree is a bit small for Pooh. He was a bit of a pudgy dude, and there is no way his friends would be able to fit inside. Then again, I don't think there were many stories where he had people in his house. He went to Rabbit's (and got stuck) and went to Owl's, but the only one I can really remember going inside Pooh's was Piglet. I could easily be wrong on this.

After going through these scenarios I realized that Pooh is a honey-bear. A honey-bear is another name for a Kinkajou, and a Kinkajou could definately fit through the door at the base of this tree. Now a Kinkajou looks nothing like the image we all hold in our heads of Winnie the Pooh, but he is still very cute. (I did a report on them when I was in 6th grade - we were studying rainforests at the time)

I really hope someone fixes Pooh's home this week. It would really make the work week easier for me.

Happy Birthday Doll

Barbie has turned 50! Originally based on a sex toy - "a gag doll for men" - she has taken the world by storm and become a cultural icon. I will admit that I collected Barbie Dolls as a young adult. I had about 15-20 before I lost interest. Grecian Goddess, Bo-Peep, Barbie of the 20's and 30's, the Original Black Dress and microphone, and those were just the beginning. She is rather addictive.

I can't believe she is based off of a sex toy. No, I can. Everyone knows her proportions are unrealistic and just plain ridiculous. Cindy Jackson seems to think otherwise. She has had over 50 procedures done to change her look. I'll give it to her, she has put in a lot of effort to change her face and body, and she does look rather Barbie like, but it is also unnerving.

While Cindy may have some issues that need to be worked out, I will stand firm on the idea that we do not need to blame girl's eating disorders on her. Yes, she is unrealistic, but most girls use Barbie as a character in telling stories or to shave her head. I really don't feel like Barbie scarred me and caused body-esteem issues. I'm pretty sure TV, movies and fashion magazines did that. Just kidding...kind of.
