Good For All weatherI

ICE-T and Coco are getting their own reality show!!!! (Please note for my blog title joke to work, let's pretend her name is Cocoa for just a second)

Honestly, how do you not smile when looking at this picture??

Months ago, I started writing about how they are my new favorite celebrity couple. I have been following them on twitter - @FinalLevel and @cocosworld - for about 8 months or so, and enjoy the majority of their tweets. The best part, is that their dog also has an account and will chime in on what is going on in their lives (@cutespartacus).

This odd little family just makes me smile. ICE appears to be a genuine person, and if you missed it back in May 2010 (I know who remembers what they did a year ago) he had a great segment on NPR.

Anywho, this is going on my list of guilty pleasure tv. Can't wait!!

Judy Greer Fan Club

I first fell in love with Judy Greer's comedic timing when she played Kitty Sanchez on Arrested Development. The scene when GOB tries to take one for the team by seducing her in the closet has to be one of the most amazing moments of the show.

After AD ended, I finally got around to seeing 13 going on 30 on DVD. I have a soft spot for bad chick flicks, and well, how do you hate on a movie that is based on magic glitter? As much as I thoroughly enjoy the film, Judy's character was not appealing at all. I know, I know, she is the bad guy. But she just lacked the right amount sass. I'll let it pass.

Now we have Judy in recurring roles on two very different shows. The first being Archer, where she voices Cheryl (aka Carol, Cristal, etc) an sassy, yet stupid, secretary to the title character. Just a few weeks ago, we learn she is from an extremely wealthy family, and works because she feels like it, she just doesn't feel like working that hard. Archer has slowly become one of my favorite shows and her comments, such as "Will someone tell me what cancer is already?" just make me crack up. I cannot wait to see what happens to her character now that her background has been revealed.

In addition to voicing an animated secretary, Judy is one of four main characters in Mad Love. Her lines are consistently delivered perfectly. I guess I really enjoy a female character who is slightly monotone, cynical and really snarky.

In the end, Judy can do no wrong right now. If I ran into her on the streets of Boston, I don't know why she would be here - just go with it, I would totally feel the need to ask her to hang out and get a drink. I'm sure she would say yes, who says no to a cocktail?

The Oscar --- Dresses

The Oscars themselves were boring/bad, poor Anne and James. They were set for failure from the get go. But who really cares about the show anyway, what really matters is the fashion!

Sadly, the Red Carpet wasn't much better. Most celebrities were dressed well, but there weren't many show stoppers out there. In fact, I could barely remember any of the dresses this morning, well any of the ones I actually liked. But after reliving it online through pictures and articles, I was able to come up with a few worth mentioning.

Florence wore this Valentine Couture dress on the carpet, and then changed into an orange number for her stage performance. I get that many people didn't care for this dress. Some even refer to it as a doily gone wrong. Yeah it covers up her body from neck to wrist to foot, but I think she totally rocks this. If someone like Kate Hudson wore this, I would say it was uuuuugly. But on Florence it looks like rocker in it.

This dress doesn't really do it for me. I have been informed by the Fashion Police that the gown was amazing in person and just didn't photograph well. The real reason why she is on the list right now is because I loved the attitude she gave to Seacrest on the Red Carpet. Girl has sass.

Reese has been criticized for this dress. I, for one, find her bubbly, adorable, and gorgeous in this simple dress. Really what it comes down to is her hair-do. It reminds me of Elle Woods and the June Carter all at once

Being pregnant isn't easy, or so I have been told, and I think she was able to pull of a wonderful Oscar dress without her whole look screaming out "I would have looked way better if it weren't for the bump". It was also really impressive that Rodarte was able to supply her with a dress at the last minute given she isn't her usual tiny self. (Love love love the color on her)

I don't know who this woman is, but I didn't like this dress when Taylor Swift wore it and I don't like it now. I was highly disappointed that the Fashion Police didn't play "Bitch Stole My Look" with this, so I felt the need to blog about the copying. What made her wear this dress just about a year after a girl who is easy more than half her age? Bad idea.

Damn she looks good. I aspire to look as good as Helen Mirren as I age. The dress is a little tight, but it is so on trend and she looks divine. The puffy shoulders look amazing, most other older women would look like they were trying to hard. She instead looks like she was the inspiration for the garment.

And let's end with some crazy. HBC is one of my favorite actresses out there. I am pretty sure she said this dress was made by a costume designer, and that just makes me smile. What better way to celebrate film than to let the costumers dress you for the big event? Personally, I want that fan purse, bad. Helena, where'd you get it??

MKO was robbed!

I saw an advertisement for Beastly the other day. The movie stars a High School Musical girl and some other dude. These two actors are the top billed on all the print ads I've seen and so with this in mind, I assumed that I would have no desire to see it. Then I saw the trailer on tv, and man did I swing 180 on that decision.

Mary Kate Olsen is in this movie!!! The commercial shows her for just a moment but just as she disappeared from the screen I knew it was her. Not for a second did I think that was Ashley, I just knew. How in the world is she not on the posters? I get that her adult movie role choices have not been the best, but she is still way more famous than these two. Who cares if she is a supporting cast member, she is freaking MK Olsen.

I gather she is the wicked witch, or just the witch since the guy has it coming to him (remember this is an updated version of Beauty & the Beast). From this still, I would say she is pulling off the creepy and intensity just fine. Now I need to find time hit up the theaters...something tells me I will find time to see this before I get to The Fighter or The Kings Speech.

Grammy Favorites

The Grammys aren't known for having a classy and tasteful Red Carpet. This year was no exception. Even with some of the crazy disco ball dresses - I'm looking your way JLo - there were some celebrities that simply knocked it out of the park. I tried to think of an order of addressing my favorite looks, but ended up just loading pictures at random.

Justin Beiber

I'm going to get the only male in this post done first. In general, white suits look silly on white men simply because there isn't enough contrast. Therefore, he looks ridiculous, but I would like to think this was his idea which makes me warm up to it. Think about how many boys went to prom looking exactly like this - they thought they look hot and urban, but no, just silly. It's nice to know Beiber really is like any other 15 year old boy.

Nicki Minaj

Of course Nicki would be mentioned. She rocked this. Leopard from hair to toes is no easy task and she just went for it. At first I was on the fence, was this outfit too much for me? Then I saw it came with pockets. SOLD. This girl is definitely growing on me and I can't wait to see what she wear next.

Florence (sans The Machine)

I hate shear dresses with cut-outs...normally. This I love. Best Swan Dress ever sported on the RC. Quirky but elegant. She is totally making a dress that revolves around an angry/unfriendly bird and turning it into rock-star fashion. (Seriously, probably my favorite of the night)

Kathy Griffin

This dress is cut well and compliments her frame. The detailing is amazing. But the main reason this dress is worth mentioning is the color. Kathy has been really into this mustard yellow shade for the 2011 award shows, and I applaud her for going for it. This is the exact dress I would put on my fake roommate, she also has a soft spot for this color and while she is curvier, I feel she could rock it.

Nicole Kidman

I forgot how much I love Nicole. Her addiction to Botox threw me these past few years, and I would have a hard time looking past her face. Now that she is allowing her forehead to return to it's former glory, I can appreciate her style. What draws me to this dress is that it is so earthy in its tones. No glitter, but the texture draws you in. Again, here is a case where the sheer doesn't bother me, it makes the skirt cloud-like.

Rihanna

This was the best stage dress of the night. I have no desire to post up her RC dress. A friend and I were sitting on our respective couches in our respective apartments and feeling the same way - how was this allowed to be shown on tv? The dress was tacky and all it made you wonder was, is she wearing underwear? Unlike the other dresses posted here, I would have no desire to wear that thing. Oooops, didn't focus on the gorge dress that is above. Well, it rocks.

Katy Perry

I'm ending with this tall glass of bubbles. The wings are a bit much, but given that it is the Grammys, I like that she went with them. When else could she pull it off? I think the only reason I like the dress is because she is wearing it and it fits her persona. The other reason I wanted to end with Ms. Perry is because of the interview she had with Seacrest. Loved that Granny has a bedazzled cane and didn't know Ryan's name. Also found Ryan's question so bizarre about Russel being there, only to find out Giuliana asked the exact same thing when talking to Jesse Eisenberg a few weeks earlier on the SAG RC. Clearly Ryan doesn't watch E!'s Red Carpet show, or he would have stayed away from repeating a stupid question.

Phew, that was a long post. Can't wait for the Oscars!

New York Fashion Week - Get in my closet

While browsing through pictures of NYFW I found that in addition to runway looks I wish I could have (to be posted soon), there were many outfits in the audience that I would be happy to take off these celebrities hands. I mean they don't wear clothes more than once, so donate to me :)

I really have a thing for white and black dresses. Sadly, I can never find one that works for me in my size. Normally, I stay away from long sleeves (even my sweaters are 3/4) but I really think the sleeves make this dress. Tinsley, want to let me know who this is by? Ok thanks

Polka dots are not my thing. But by adding two rows of larger dots makes it look more like a tasteful pattern/embellishment, rather than fabric that should be the base of a dolldress or table cloth. I am pretty sure the salmon/pink color would flatter my complexion more than my usual taste of hot pink crazy.

Here I like the silhouette more than the actual print. Given my small bust, I find that when I wear looser tops with tighter fit bottoms I appear much more girlish. Tight tops just remind everyone that I am lanky and slightly boyish in the torso. I'll keep my eye out for similar looks.

Ok, clearly this outfit is not for me. But Mr. Hamm just looks so darn cute. I mean who wouldn't want to have him around to hang out with?

More to come about the runway shows/new spring collections, and of course the Grammy's (dropped the ball on the Globes and the SAGs).

Happy Halloween

This year I decided to do Lady Gaga. It might have been done to death, but whatever, how often do you get the opportunity to go out in public without pants. While I realize that the lack of pants should put in the trampy category of costumes, but I would like believe that I still haven't gone the way of "sexy _____". After careful consideration, I decided to go with Poker Face Lady Gaga:

Per usual, I did keep with my personal life view of "go big or go home" and committed to leotard and hood only. Let me tell you, walking down the street to the house party I went to was a bit chilly to say the least. The costume was well received, and I even won "best celebrity look-a-like". Here are two pictures I took on my computer before I headed out, I figured I would spare the internet a picture that would include my bum.

This is a bad Situation.

The new talk of the town is that The Situation (of Jersey Shore fame) is reported to make upwards of $5 million in 2010. This figure includes payment from MTV's trainwreck of a show (up to $60k per episode), party appearances ($15k - $50k), along with endorsements (i.e. workout videos, steroid flavored vodka -I kid I kid, the GTL rap app) and of course a book advance.

I know what you are saying to yourself right now, A BOOK ADVANCE???, and I am with you sista. This reported 6 figure advance will be used for the 29 year old set of abs to write his autobiography. Does someone smell a ghost writer? For the last few hours, this news has taken my breath away and caused me extreme angst. Is the only way for me to become a household name is to become a STD farm? Please say it isn't so.

To help The Situation out, I have comprised a list of ideas for this book.

  • A pop up book. We can go through his Ab workout with him and see him do his curl-ups and, well, whatever else one does for a six-pack
  • A baby sensory book. You know, one of those books that has textures and fun games for kids, page one could be his abs, page 2 could be a puzzle where you change his tank top to his going on shirts, I've got nothing for page 3.
  • A picture book. This is the obvious and easiest of the suggestions. A picture is worth a 1,000 words and maybe a collection of his will be worth that six figure advance?
I hate it when I waste my space on the internet promoting the famously trashy, but sometimes I just can't step away.

Identifying the New Cute Guy on GREEK

Greek season three started up again a few weeks ago. Casey Cartwright recently volunteered for a local political campaign with the hopes that she would be offered a job as a lobbiest once she graduated from CRU. The CRU alum who was her boss let her know that she was completely under-qualified and if she was serious, she should go to law school. Thus, even though it is well into the second semester of her senior year, she is going after this new goal and plans to enroll in the fall. The alum looked REALLY familiar to me and couldn't put my finger on it.

He was on Shark. Shark was a short lived, thanks writers' strike, law drama centered around the main character, Sebastian Stark, played by James Wood (yay RI!). One of his assistant lawyers was played by the same actor. Thank you channel 9 for randomly having a Shark marathon on this very rainy Sunday.

Three girls who have less of a reason to be famous than Kim...

For the last few weeks I have seen advertisements for "Pretty Wild". All I ever understood was that there were three sisters that were supposedly famous and got a tv show for it. I never had the attention span to figure out their back story, after all, it took me years to be able to figure out why we care about the Kardashians. Thankfully, because this show is on E!, Chelsea Handler had the three girls on Chelsea Lately.

I learned that Alexis was in the Bling Ring (aka Burglary Bunch). In case you have forgotten what this pop-culture reference is, the Bling Ring was a group of over privileged adolescence who thought there was nothing better to do with their time than to burgal homes of young Holywood (think Orlando Bloom, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, etc) in 2008 and 2009. If you haven't heard this girl talk yet, trust me on this one, she was in no way the brains behind the operation. When asked what she was doing with her time right now, the answer was not school even thought she is 19, but instead she a Pilates, hip hop, pole dancing instructor. The clips let us know that there is a pole in the house so that she can keep up her skills.

What these three girls go onto explain to Chelsea is that they are followed because they follow The Secret. The Secret is the philosophy of the Church of Religious Science. Basically you think about what you want, it will happen. The example that they gave was that they wanted to be on tv and then E! offered them one. Case closed.

I said before I would never give in and watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and have since become a fan if marathons are on E!. But I am very VERY certain that even I cannot be sucked into the story of three sisters who pole dance and do playboy (the 20 year old was a Cyber Girl).

Eeeeep. Hands don't lie

Demi Moore has made statements in the past that she has not had any work done and simply hasn't aged because of her good genes. Well, tell that to your hands sister.

If I hadn't seen the full body photo of her in this dress I would have thought Betty White went with a bold choice for the award show!

Gaga that M.A.C. knows Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

While browsing in M.A.C. this weekend, I saw that their Viva Glam line now has lipsticks with Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga. As these are both part of the Viva Glam product line, very cent raised through the purchase goes to the M.A.C. AIDS fund. The fund helps to support the fight against HIV/AIDS.

While normally I would gravitate towards Cyndi's color as it is BRIGHT red, I figured the pale pink would be more useful for regular day to day use. As maccosmetics.com states, the lipstick features a high lustre finish and cool blue-pink shade. I think the blue tones is really what makes the product special. Taylor at the Nordstrom's counter recommended pairing the lip stick with Viva Glam 6 gloss, the results were amazing. (see above!)

I'm loving the two products together and definitely recommend them to those that love a great looking mouth. If Taylor hadn't been there to suggest the pairing, I don't think I would have purchased the lipstick. I need to give fair warning to anyone thinking about going Gaga, the lipstick on its own is very pale pink and needs the gloss to intensify it. Fortunately, the M.A.C. staff is always so helpful, has always been able to steer me into the right direction, and so I just suggest asking for a little guidance! :)

Super Bowl, Super Game

In watching the Superbowl, we (all the females at least) agreed that Drew Brees's scar made him hot. The intensity with that kind of cut just makes you go **sigh**.

Beyond the cute QB, the game was pretty amazing this year. We had all be so sure that going for the touchdown on fourth down in the second quarter and falling short was pretty much going to cost the Saints the game. But then they came back in the second half with a SUCCESSFUL onside kick. We knew that this was going to a be a great game to watch, and it was!

The only let down was the lack of showing Kendra or Kim on screen. You would think that the camera guys would have panned over to them occasionally, right? We even designed a drinking game around this. So epic fail on the network for not showing everyone's favorite Girl Next Door or E! reality show star.

I think because the game was so much better than usual, I was ok that the commercials were only so great. Most of the commercials were for Bud, CBS, Doritos or Coke and I would have loved to see a little more variety. One of my favorite commercials was the careerbuilder.com ad with casual Friday. I think it was pretty genius. If I were careerbuilder I would have been pissed that the Docker ad ran right after mine as they too focused on pantless people. What was CBS thinking putting them together like that!!

Last comment about the night. Drew Brees has the cutest little boy. Thought the headphones were adorable on his small little head!

UPDATE: While aimlessly searching the web I found that the mark on his face is not a badass scar, but actually a birthmark. Can't lie, his hotness just decreased a few levels.

A few comments on the Grammys

Watched the Grammy's with a friend of mine. Both of us were very excited to see what Lady Gaga would come up with for her various costumes. This first piece was created by Giorgio Armani. We had gotten a glimpse of it when we first put on the red carpet coverage and were thankful that she was interviewed towards the end as it was clear she would not be in this for long. She had a amazing opening where she wore some intense shoes. My guess is that they were McQueens but I could be wrong and will be on the look out for pictures of them. As much as I love the sculptural aspects of this look, I find something just off about her face. Cannot put my finger on it, but there is something strange.

Katy Perry is another person I really enjoy seeing on the red carpet or up on stage. Also edgy, but not so out there like Ms. Gaga. Her fiancee is gorgeous so I figured it was worth finding a picture that showed the two of them. I understand the appeal that this dress may have had for Katy, but I wish she had kept shopping. The fit is weird in the boob area. It isn't so obvious in this shot, but the fabric doesn't pull very tight under her bust so it makes the girls look a little saggy. Additionally, I hate side boob. I don't think it is appealing and I wish she chose a dress that provided some side coverage. The look might have been more acceptable if the dress wasn't so close to flesh tones. It made the side boob look slightly accidental.

For someone who decided name herself after a color, Pink does not choose to sport the shade but definately embodies all that it represents. Her red carpet dress was amazing with the layering and bling even if it was in neutral grays and creams.

The acrobatic performance was amazing. Awkward glitter patches aside (I feel there would have been better ways to cover her lady bits) her costume was simple but sexy. At first I doubted her skills when she simply spun in a large piece of fabric. After she was dunked in water, her athleticism was shown. She started to hang straight down and then began to spin at an alarming rate. The water spraying off her body gave off a wonderful effect. I was a little curious if there was a splash zone below for the guests and if so, who got wet?

Ke$ha has made it to the red carpet. Tik Tok is a catchy enough song, by catchy I believe she hit some sort of record recently with the sales. I guess I had never seen her picture before, because I had no idea who the Courtney Love wannabe was who Ryan Seacrest was hoping to flag down. I understand that she was dirt poor before hitting it big. The one thing she said she was excited to do with her new found wealth was "buy a taco".

It will take her a little while to find her style. But I think trashy, glitter, Pocahontas might not be the look she is hoping for.

Last dress (for now). Lea Michele is a Grammy winner from her time on Spring Awakening. Now, she is most known (for my age demographic at least) for her role as Rachel on Glee. The cameras kept finding her with this dress, and I can't quite decide if I like it or not. The bottom is superb. No question. What I am having issue with relates to the over the shoulder mesh strap. I just find it distracting and makes her somehow look bulky on just one side. Maybe if the fabric was more solid in nature? All I know is at the intersection where the ruching along her waist meets the draping of the shoulder my eye gets offended.
