Angry Birds are taking over

Angry Birds are thisclose to being yesterday's news. I mean it took the world by storm, but pretty much everyone I know has beaten the game by now (I did so in December). Needless to say, I still get excited when I see those crazy birds online or in stores.

A few weeks ago, there was the video of the peace summit - I could have sworn I posted it, but apparently that came out in my lazy poster period.

On Saturday, I stopped in Urban Outters on the way to the bowling alley to get out of the way of some bone chilling wind. There I saw plush versions of the birds and pigs. Love it. They are on my short list of silly things needing to be purchased for my office. I feel that my coworkers and I would love to zing this back and forth, as we are about to enter a super tense part of the year.


But today, I saw an article about a man who recreated the game into the form of a cake for his son's birthday! As much fun as it would be to play a real life Angry Birds, I don't think I would really want to eat cake that was flinging around the dining room. But if anyone wants to make me an Angry Birds cake to help me get through the Spring Semester, by all means get cooking. :)

Grammy Favorites

The Grammys aren't known for having a classy and tasteful Red Carpet. This year was no exception. Even with some of the crazy disco ball dresses - I'm looking your way JLo - there were some celebrities that simply knocked it out of the park. I tried to think of an order of addressing my favorite looks, but ended up just loading pictures at random.

Justin Beiber

I'm going to get the only male in this post done first. In general, white suits look silly on white men simply because there isn't enough contrast. Therefore, he looks ridiculous, but I would like to think this was his idea which makes me warm up to it. Think about how many boys went to prom looking exactly like this - they thought they look hot and urban, but no, just silly. It's nice to know Beiber really is like any other 15 year old boy.

Nicki Minaj

Of course Nicki would be mentioned. She rocked this. Leopard from hair to toes is no easy task and she just went for it. At first I was on the fence, was this outfit too much for me? Then I saw it came with pockets. SOLD. This girl is definitely growing on me and I can't wait to see what she wear next.

Florence (sans The Machine)

I hate shear dresses with cut-outs...normally. This I love. Best Swan Dress ever sported on the RC. Quirky but elegant. She is totally making a dress that revolves around an angry/unfriendly bird and turning it into rock-star fashion. (Seriously, probably my favorite of the night)

Kathy Griffin

This dress is cut well and compliments her frame. The detailing is amazing. But the main reason this dress is worth mentioning is the color. Kathy has been really into this mustard yellow shade for the 2011 award shows, and I applaud her for going for it. This is the exact dress I would put on my fake roommate, she also has a soft spot for this color and while she is curvier, I feel she could rock it.

Nicole Kidman

I forgot how much I love Nicole. Her addiction to Botox threw me these past few years, and I would have a hard time looking past her face. Now that she is allowing her forehead to return to it's former glory, I can appreciate her style. What draws me to this dress is that it is so earthy in its tones. No glitter, but the texture draws you in. Again, here is a case where the sheer doesn't bother me, it makes the skirt cloud-like.

Rihanna

This was the best stage dress of the night. I have no desire to post up her RC dress. A friend and I were sitting on our respective couches in our respective apartments and feeling the same way - how was this allowed to be shown on tv? The dress was tacky and all it made you wonder was, is she wearing underwear? Unlike the other dresses posted here, I would have no desire to wear that thing. Oooops, didn't focus on the gorge dress that is above. Well, it rocks.

Katy Perry

I'm ending with this tall glass of bubbles. The wings are a bit much, but given that it is the Grammys, I like that she went with them. When else could she pull it off? I think the only reason I like the dress is because she is wearing it and it fits her persona. The other reason I wanted to end with Ms. Perry is because of the interview she had with Seacrest. Loved that Granny has a bedazzled cane and didn't know Ryan's name. Also found Ryan's question so bizarre about Russel being there, only to find out Giuliana asked the exact same thing when talking to Jesse Eisenberg a few weeks earlier on the SAG RC. Clearly Ryan doesn't watch E!'s Red Carpet show, or he would have stayed away from repeating a stupid question.



Phew, that was a long post. Can't wait for the Oscars!

Christmas Classic

I remember the first time I heard this song I was dishdogging it for the catering company I worked at during the summer. We were back at the shop late at night washing up all the pots and knives. Scalding water is much more bearable if you are also listening to a rad mix-cd. Intertwined with the latest summer jams, crazy techno and classic songs was Dominick the Donkey. Hell has no fury like a City Scorned

Tonight is the Heat/Cavs game in Cleveland. LeBron is making his return to the city he b*tch slapped on national television. I feel as if I have been reading about this game since the season began, and finally it is hear. The countdown has been almost as exciting as counting down for Christmas!

For the last hour, I have perused a number of online publications which focus on this event. (Note: at 10 am I googled LeBron James returns to Cleveland and got 4,995 news hits) I have to admit, Cleveland is as creative as it is bitter. The best video would go to the group that spoofed Lebron's recent Nike ad.



Even though I will be in my Economics class during most of the game, I will be silently chanting along with the Clevelanders(?), or is it Clevelandites (?), hh we will just go with Cavs fans. The third quarter song is quite brilliant if you ask me. I truly hope that this song happens and can be heard on tv.

I could have cared less about LeBron when he was at Cleveland, but after he made a spectacle of himself with "The Decision" I have grown to love rooting against him. Let's hear it for Cleveland!

Amy Sedaris is pure joy

My mother sent me a to Amy Sedaris's new book "Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People" asking if I would be interested. The book centers around crafts for people with no money. I am taking this as proof that mother knows me well. She understands that a) I love crafts, especially tacky ones and b) I often tell her that I am poor - mainly due to my life choice of living by myself. I was thinking about posting about the book, even though I don't own it, but had been holding off. I am glad I did, because if this had gone up 3 weeks ago, she would not have yet interviewed with Wendy Williams.

Amy Sedaris is one of those comedians that I love and forget that I love until I see her again. Strangers with Candy was a great show, which, if memory serves me correctly, only lasted a season. Shame. Personally, I think she is the funnier Sedaris.

Anyway, she was on the Wendy Willaims Show. I have only seen clips on The Soup, but Wendy seems like a hoot and a holler. Having a wack-a-doo like Amy had to become entertainment joy. And it was.

The only other interview that I have seen of Amy was a few years ago when her first book came out. She was being interviewed on Chelsea Lately and decided this would be a great forum to discuss female health issues...with homemade props.

Old Spice has nothing on Grover

Sesame Street is really pulling out the big guns lately. The skits have been referencing all sorts of great pop culture videos/movies/shows. It looks like this might be a new parody, and I think the parents will approve of this one a bit more than the Katy Perry sing-a-long with Elmo.



I read in online that there might be an adult Sesame Street in the works. Fingers crossed! I do love me some muppets.

Catchy Stuff Man

Sometimes a parody is great. Sometimes it isn't. Before we had "No Scrubs" (great) that was followed by "No Pigeons" (bad). Just last week Cee Lo put out a song entitled "F*ck You", which I thought was catchy as hell and was tempted to blog about it. But when I saw the video it already had well over 2 million hits. Today, I saw a post about a parody version. Loved it, and wanted to let you love it too!

Happy as a frog

This has to be one of my favorite videos/pictures I have found on the internet. For the last few months I have kept it as a bookmark and refer to it during stressful times. This frog's happiness is so contagious!!

Pretty Damn Cool

This is video showing how flights were affected by the ash from the volcano. You can see how as the ash settled more and more planes were able to take to the skies. I like that you can tell when it is daytime versus night.

Oh stuff and fluff

The rain just won't stop in Boston. It is awful. I was hoping for some great fun now that I kind of have my life back. (We can ignore the fact that my application for school isn't quite complete, nor have I filed my taxes) But the damn rain just won't stop!

If you think I am exaggerating just check with the news. I saw today that we have received 15 inches of rain this month. Normally this area gets 14 inches for March through June! The year gets about 43 inches and had 15 in a month! What is going on with the world? I don't remember it raining like this when I was growing up. I heard rumor school was canceled back home due to flooding!

Mother Nature, please give me back the sun. Thanks.

Best Female Commercial Ever

Studying for the GMATs is exhausting. I have given up happy hours and going out with friends after work. Basically I want to avoid headaches the morning after and would like to increase my chances of a decent night's sleep. But to be perfectly honest, I have no attention span when it comes to studying and require either small breaks every half hour, or longer breaks every hour. The longest time I have gone sitting and studying for this test is when I take a practice test for 3 hours straight.

What do I do during these study breaks? I watch trashy tv. I tend to fast-foward through commercials, but this one makes me laugh every time I see it. I don't know if I really think the commercial is funny, or if I think it is funny because when I first saw it, I happened to be menstruating. (tmi, sorry)




I am happy to see a commercial about women's menstruation that doesn't glorify this monthly nuisance. Maybe some day our culture will become comfortable enough with the woman's body to allow for "vagina" to be said in the ad!

Gaga for Telephone

This video is beyond words. I happened to keep E! going after the Chelsea Lately show and got to see the new Telephone video featuring Lady Gaga and Beyonce. Honestly, if videos were always made like this I think Mtv would put music television back in their logo and people would just sit and watch. The colors and costumes are to die for. And the storyline is ridiculous but hysterical. You have to give this video a chance! I have included some screen shots below as a preview :)

Loved the opening with the title "Prison for Bitches". The costume that Lady Gaga has for her prison striped jump suit is pretty amazing. I think it does what she had hoped that green Mickey Mouse ear-like shoulder leotard was supposed to do at the Grammy's.




The cigarette sunglasses are a nice accessory. If smoking wasn't so bad for you, and it didn't irriatate my eyes, I would be tempted to get a pair myself. (kidding kidding)








Of course, the video would not be complete without classic Gaga headpieces. Loving the hair receiver that doubles as a pirate eye patch.

I would also love to know where inmates get to shop because these shoes are calling my name. I believe there is still some room in my third closet for a few more pairs of shoes. If a prison bitch can survive in the joint in shoes like that, I certainly can walk around the bar, right?

And yes, I realize I don't have pictures of Beyonce in this post, but I like Gaga better. The dance sequence where they wear patriotic costumes is amazing, but the frames go by so fast that it is hard to get a screenshot of the both of them that is half way decent. This was the best I could do.

Jimmy Fallon's Amazing Martini Race

Normally I don't watch the late shows, or late late shows, but I saw that Chelsea Handler was going to be on Jimmy Fallon's so I DVR-ed it. This morning while getting myself ready, I opted to fast forward to her interview (which was hysterical). After she finished promoting her new book, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang, Jimmy asked if she would participate in a martini race. The race was too good to not share with you all:



Once Jimmy went down I busted out laughing. I especially loved the hope that through the magic of editing the home audience would have been spared some awkwardness and blood.

How To Be A Jersey Shore Guidette

Many of you have probably seen the dove commercial from 2006(?) where they show how lighting, make up, and photoshop can take a regular looking female and turn her into a billboard beauty.

Well, now funnyordie.com has come out with it's own version. Here Alyssa Milano is transformed into Snooki from the Jersey Shore. This transformation is genius. I am a huge fan of the Jersey Shore and have no problem admitting this. It is such trash, but the cast is just so out there that you can't help but want to tune in each and every week.

A few weeks ago I made reference to "Kitten Mittons". A creation from the amazing show Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Someone out there went ahead and made some for their cat. The cat, is not too pleased, but at least he isn't making SO MUCH NOISE!

I am probably in a car right now on my way to Troy, New York for Thanksgiving. Around 10:30 or 11 am every year Alice's Restaurant comes on the radio. And every year my family and I try to find it as we clearly can't be bothered to learn what station it is on. If you never have heard this great story/song, well have no fear, I found it on youtube for you!

Back 15!

10 years ago "back 15!" probably was not a phrase many people found themselves screaming. Last night half the room was yelling it as we watched the Kitten Mitton clip from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The episode was played off the dvr and while it pretty much has you laughing from the beginning there is one particular point when the mittons are being wore that is just bust a gut hysterical. As soon as that moment past everyone wanted to see it again and "back 15" was being yelled, because in case you couldn't pick up on its meaning, we all wanted to go back in time 15 seconds to see the action again.

I really found it fascinating that not a single person yelled out rewind, it was every one's instinct to yell out for a repeat of those 15 seconds.

If you are an It's Always Sunny fan and you haven't seen this clip yet, you really should. If you aren't a fan, but loved Arrested Development you probably are a future Sunny fan and just don't know it. I've put the clip below. But I will admit, it is funnier to watch it with friends.



Final note, EW did a story on the show recently which was pretty good and I suggest you read it if you haven't already.

Dancing with myself on my way home from the grocery

Today was totally an ordinary day. Nothing particularly exciting happened. But for some reason I had an urge to dance. I think my need dates back to Saturday night. A friend of mine had her birthday celebration and in the invite there was mention of dancing. I had a phenomenal hot pink dress (complete with a tutu skirt) and HIGH heels. Totally ready to dance. The rain kind of put a damper on the plan as the bar didn't get crowded enough for the dance floor to pick up before I left. Then Sunday I did a little abc.go.com tv watching trying to let my body recover from the drinking. (For some reason "classy" beer likes make me hungover, it is kind of a pain)

As you may have heard, Ugly Betty has been banished to the least desirable time slot - Friday evenings! I figured I should watch episodes to see if I feel like I can handle yet another show on the DVR. Safe to say I can. One of the episodes features Betty having to find a date to a work party and in the end decides to attend by herself. Of course the final scene is of her dancing to Dancing with myself which is one of my favorite dance songs. I used to have to take the bus to work, I would often listen to it and dance on the corner. Those mornings I got a lot of smiles.



In addition to hearing that song on Sunday, I had pandora playing on my computer this afternoon and You can't stop the beat came on from Hairspray. If that isn't a catchy song is, I don't know what is. I mean

With all this music bubbling up inside of me, I basically had to let loose. On the way home from the grocery store I 100% started to dance up the street. Arms flying, hips swaying, some hopping and possibly some head bobbing. One guy in his car at red light yelled out "hey girl, you look happy!" I had to reply "I am". There was just so much energy in my body. I did race back to the apartment and had a one person dance party to the 10 minute movie version of You can't stop the beat. Without my grocery bag on my shoulder I definitely had more free range of movement so hair flips and body waves were just all over my living room. I am thankful for my shag rug now for two reasons. It feels good on my feet, but it also absorbs the shock of me dancing and hopping around up here.

Yeah, I can't end this post without including the Glee version of Dancing with myself.




Today was a day for dancing. Therefore, today was a good day. I might just need to dance myself to bed now.
