Small town. Great fireworks

Home for the Fourth of July was a great idea. Especially for the fireworks. I know that Boston fireworks are huge and spectacular. They are accompanied by the Pops and there are TONS of people there. But there is something to be said for the fireworks at Old Mountain Field. Getting a spot on the baseball outfield is like getting in the circle at the Esplanade. People will arrive on the field mid-afternoon to get a good spot and listen to live music. Once we get closer to 9 pm a local student or something gets to sing the Star Spangled Banner for the crowd. People come from the surrounding towns to listen/watch all of this. Then comes the countdown and BOOM!

The next 40 minutes were spent watching amazing fireworks and kind of hearing the local radio station play selective almost festive songs. At one point we heard "Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. That song makes me smile.

I was with two of my friends from grade school. Three 20-something women laying on a blanket ooooing and ahhhing along with the kids and adults that lay all around us. It was really comforting being there.

The best part of the finale was when they shot up like 25 firework rings. They overlapped each other and it was so pretty. Since they were rings it was a little less messy and looked more like art. So pretty.

Once the show was over, and again boy was the finale AWESOME, everyone grabs up their stuff and begin to walk back to their cars. Downtown Wakefield gets filled with people and you have to be stupid to try and drive down past the field as everyone just pours into the double laned road.

It is just so enjoyable walking out in such a big crowd. Like I said, I was once in the circle at the Esplanade and when everything was done then, everyone was scrambling and seemed lost. Trying to get onto the T and cram into the nearby stations... But in South County, everyone got up and started walking. We all knew that we would be in some traffic, but everyone moved together in a group and it was fine.

Yeah, I really liked the show. Maybe next year I'll stay up here.
